Re: With the vic-ii removed...does the floppy work?
Hi finepie. To illustrate a point. I fixed a neighbour's remote control for a TV as a favour a while back. I couldn't work out what was going on Maybe 3 to 4 keys would not work at all. Everything else was ok. Only by chance did I get some action when I pressed some random keys simultaneously. How o...

Re: With the vic-ii removed...does the floppy work?
Hi finepie, Good to hear you are making good progress. Sometimes these things require perseverance like you have shown. Your keyboard problem may be caused by dirty or worn contacts where the key meets the PCB. Could you swap out the keyboard for another one? Alternatively you might try to remove th...

Very Good Article on C-64 BASIC TROUBLESHOOTING (longboard styles)
I thought I'd post this article on C-64 BASIC TROUBLESHOOTING. I found it to be very helpful in narrowing down issues on faulty C64 mainboards. There are several articles on the internet that are similar. However this one I found to be easiest to follow. C64_Service_Manual_314001-02_(1985_Feb)_.zip ...

Re: directly connecting C64 to PC
Hi Banana, Have a look at this great video on using the pi 1541 on the Pi Zero and Pi one. https://youtu.be/8Gs1daxDKa8 I found it very useful for setting up the Pi Zero. I think you can purchase a bare bones Pi Zero for about $10 AUD not including shipping costs. The Pi Zero will need to be overclo...

Re: directly connecting C64 to PC
Hi Banana, Good to hear! Try this web site.... https://ist.uwaterloo.ca/~schepers/xa1541.html It goes thru all the various types of cables for transfer and how to make them. It's a good starting point for how you'd like to go. Have you considered a pi1541? Absolutely a fantastic piece of kit! Easy t...

Re: directly connecting C64 to PC
Hi Banana, Do a dumpster dive... I'm sure some relative has an old one laying around the house. I think you can get usb to parallel cables off your favourite web site.... There's not a whole lot of circuitry in these XA1541cables. I'm very much a hobbyist. I made these up myself from a kit. Very sat...
