Re: Am I the most powerful nerd here?
Again, I have regret for not buying CMD stuff back in the day. I had pretty much moved mostly to Amiga by then. I did pickup the Fire2k clone drive a …login to view the rest of this post

Re: But am I the most stylish nerd here?
I wish I would have bought an Indus GT drive back in the day. The thing is that back then buying an aftermarket non-1541 drive was not so popular and …login to view the rest of this post

Re: The last "Old Style" electronics store in the U.S.
Weird Stuff Warehouse was great. I used to go there too and Fry's also. We had a local Electronics store here but it didn't last longer then the early 90s. I used to purchase mainly DRAM chips there for upgrading REUs for friends.

Re: Why I must charge big $$ for shipping with tracking
Yeah the USPS started the ePacket thing providing tracking and first class mail to China and other countries. Basically they are giving them lower rates than their own customers in the USA. Also previous USPS treaties that allowed another country to charge the shipping rate and the USPS would just d...

Re: OSH Park PCB Issues?
Thanks for the experience. I only learned that they did not test boards after I had this problem. Like you I had been happy before. I still have a few…login to view the rest of this post
Re: 1541
Ok cool thanks for the tips. I did clean the hub out and the shaft and everything that goes with it but have not tried to adjust those two screws that are locked down with thread locker. That sounds reasonable if it is off a bit. I did get another 1541 drive in which is a VIC-1541 white job and it's...

Re: OSH Park PCB Issues?
Well, to be fair to OSH, wouldn't it be better to take it up with them and see their reaction first? Of course which I have already done. The problem…login to view the rest of this post

Re: OSH Park PCB Issues?
To answer my own question yes they do have shorted traces. I ordered a set from JLCPCB and soldered up a new SS Clone and it works perfectly. The boar…login to view the rest of this post
Re: 1541
Awesome, thanks! I did this exact procedure and it did quiet it down considerably. But some of the noise came back and it is as you suggest, the e washer spinning. I did two drives and the 2nd drive seemed to be missing one of the "washers". This is a made in Germany drive with a dual volt...
1541
I recently purchased a 1541 from *ahem*, ebay. I knew it probably didn't work and I was right it didn't. But all it had was a bad ROM chip. The drive reads, writes and formats everything really well but there is one problem. It is very noisy when a disk is loaded. I think it is the hub and centering...
