Re: I'd like to propose a "FD-3000"
Yes I saw that on 8 Bit Show And Tell's channel, but I wasn't sure if it was a duplicator or actually works as a dual drive unit. I just had two laptop drives (hoarder power, activate!) lying around. It fits physically, with some caveats. Laptop drives use flat flex cables so there's no way to conne...

I'd like to propose a "FD-3000"
What would happen if we try this FD-3000_fantasy.jpg I just put two laptop drives instead of the full-sized drive, there's no connection inside the unit. I wonder if there's a disassembly or source listing of the FD-2000's DOS. Either use the two drives as device 0 and 1 like the usual Commodore dua...

Re: C128D displaying random characters on startup screen (plastic case model)
That's great, although I can't explain it. I don't know the 128 nearly as well as the 64, but clearly we can see all the big chips must be OK. I think it's a jellybean logic chip, or maybe much worse, an intermittent trace/via somewhere. What else can you test? Can you check for MOS branded logic ch...

Re: C128D displaying random characters on startup screen (plastic case model)
I did notice that the video display chips never really had a good heat sink connection ever. The HMOS chips run much cooler. I think you have some sort of jellybean logic chip failure somewhere, the DRAM is likely good as it's Samsung and the machine seems to want to live. I am not a big fan of the...

Re: C128D displaying random characters on startup screen (plastic case model)
I don't have this particular model of 128 but we can go step by step to attempt the repair. I've done it before through the forum but it does take time. So since it powers up and it affects both modes, must be something in common. Typically I'd check the power supply voltages first even if it seems ...
