I mean we all know the PLA fails whether we take care of it or not. I think in general what fails next are the DRAM chips, with maybe MOS support chips like 8701 type of things? Rest assured I haven't been working on it for two months... I simply put it aside while waiting for parts.
But as luck would have it, the 6522s I ordered didn't arrive, instead I got a bag of 6502s...

Here's a head from a Mitsubishi G62M double-sided double-density sled. This is completely different from the straddle erase head in the Newtronics. The head is on a metal foil suspension as is the opposite head. The read/write ferrites end up away from each other when the heads clamp on the floppy. ...
