JiffyDos and 1541 Ultimate II (WinICE) Help

Hi All,

I need help getting JiffyDOS working with my 1541 Ultimate II.

I have a 64 Breadbin.

This is what I have tried so far;

I downloaded the ROMS from here http://www.nightfallcrew.com/?s=jiffydos+roms

*** NOTE: I will purchase the ROMS once I'm happy my system is working as expected ***

WINVICE PROBLEM

In winVICE I have loaded the C64 rom as the replacement kernal for winVICE and that seems to work. If I replace the 1541 or 1541-II with their relevant ROMS and put the 64 kernal back to default then JiffyDOS doesn't seem to work. ie only works with the C64 JiffyDos kernal replacement (JiffyDOS_C64.bin)

Q: Why doesn't JiffyDOS show up when I attach the alternate ROM to the 1541 or 1541-II drive setting in winVICE?

What am I doing wriong?

1541 ULTIMATE II Problem

OK in the U2 none of the roms seem to be working.
Using the F2 function in the settings

For the drive settings I have tried setting the 1541 settings to Load from File and set the File as JiffyDOS_1541.bin (8k) or JiffyDOS_1541-II.bin (16k) and neither worked.

I have also tried the alternate rom JiffyDOS_C64.bin in the kernal settings
and that didn't work either.

So how do I know if the rom I buy will work? I just don't know!!

Hi All,

I've managed to get it all working...

HERE'S WHAT I DID Smile

I created a 'ROMS' directory on the SD Card and a 'JIFFYDOS' directory inside that and placed the JD1541-II.bin and the JDC64.bin in there (renamed of course).

BTW for those of you with the 1541 U2 I figured you should be able to use paths on the Ultimate II and Gideon confirmed this for me a while back. I'm fussy.. I like a clean 'ROOT' folder.

Anyway back to the solution!!

I edited the U2 config settings (F2) as follows..

for the drive,

In 1541 Drive A Settings I selected 'LOAD FROM FILE' with the filename pointing to 'ROMS/JIFFYDOS/JD1541-II.bin'

Pressing RUN/STOP, then F2 again but this time,

for the C64 kernal,

In C64 and cartridge settings I selected 'Alternate Kernal' as 'Enabled' and the 'Alternate Kernal File' pointing to 'ROMS/JIFFYDOS/JDC64.bin'

Pressing RUN/STOP, RUN/STOP to save out and back to the Basic screen.

Now this wasn't working but I found that if you change the 'PHI2' from 100ns to 80ns everything started working as it should.

Now all I have to do is purchase the C64 ROM and the 1541 ROM overlays like I said I would if I got the damn thing working... Smile

I will stick to my word and buy them when I get paid at the end of the month.. Honest!
