I do have an old PC in the attic and I'm pretty sure it does have a parallel port, but I haven't used it in ages. I'll bring it down and try to fire it up.

Hi Banana,

Good to hear!

Try this web site....

https://ist.uwaterloo.ca/~schepers/xa1541.html

It goes thru all the various types of cables for transfer and how to make them. It's a good starting point for how you'd like to go.

Have you considered a pi1541? Absolutely a fantastic piece of kit!
Easy to build., super reliable. With a 2 GB SD card installed one could have just about the entire Commodore software suite.
Just put your software on the SD card from a PC and the put it into the Pi1541. It will read disk images and tape files.
With the correct configuration it can become various Commodore disk drive models.

Hi Banana,

Have a look at this great video on using the pi 1541 on the Pi Zero and Pi one.

I found it very useful for setting up the Pi Zero. I think you can purchase a bare bones Pi Zero for about $10 AUD not including shipping costs.
The Pi Zero will need to be overclocked approximately 10%. It will void the manufacturers warranty.
I will say I haven't had any issues with this mod. I have had it running on several high 30C days without any heat sinks inside an enclosure. No issues.

TIP: having an oled display screen helps heaps in setting up the Pi 1541. I had heaps of trouble because I wasn't sure where I was when navigating in the SD card directory structure.

One can pick up a screen for a few dollars. :D
