No mention of Beamrider or Pastfinder, Or River Raid either. Shame on you Melon-ers.
Re: Best C64 shmups? (Shoot'em Ups)
I'm a big fan of Pastfinder too. Once you understand the controls and the map screen, it's got so much depth.
(I also have a hunch the random map creation was an influence on Andrew Braybrook's Alleykat).

Recently I really got into Gaplus. It seems to me like one of the best arcade conversions for the platform.
Compete with me for high scores on highscore.com.

For a budget price (£2.99) it was a bargain, but the poor ZZAP review probably put people off.Serious wrote:Recently I really got into Gaplus. It seems to me like one of the best arcade conversions for the platform.

It occurs to me that I've never seen any manual for Pastfinder either. :/

We shall find out soon, I'm sure Andy's book is coming very soon indeed.

Will Wright's Raid On Bungeling Bay, This may be an urban myth, But I hear he had an editor for ROBB, And he had that much fun with it, He decided to work on that some more, make it playable and it became Sim City. As I said, That could be an urban myth, But ROBB is still playable.

Well, he said in interviews he had more fun flying around the map and that lead on to thinking about a game where you flew over a city as it was built...MitchFrenzal wrote:Will Wright's Raid On Bungeling Bay, This may be an urban myth, But I hear he had an editor for ROBB, And he had that much fun with it, He decided to work on that some more, make it playable and it became Sim City. That makes slightly more sense, I must've read it off wikipedia or something.

Orlando J. Pilchard's Firetrack always gets left off these lists too, I find that's a good old vertically scrolling shooter.
