Re: Are there and uses for a Georam (ram expansion) above 512kb

Nope. The original post was about uses for GEORAM above 512kb. The REU and GeoRAM are 2 very different things.
Reread the original post. He states:
or for that matter any type of memory expansion

Re: Are there and uses for a Georam (ram expansion) above 512kb

My favorite type of RAM expansion hasn't even been mentioned yet - SuperRAM. The programmer has direct access to up to 16 megabytes, and at SuperCPU speeds, meets or surpasses anything that an REU can do. RAMLink (or RAMDrive) is a fourth type of RAM expansion. It supports up to 16MB and has it's ow...

Re: Are there and uses for a Georam (ram expansion) above 512kb

I made a point earlier that most games that have been patched, don't require more than 512KB. That actually depends, and I'm wishing I hadn't said that. Role playing games often came with two disks and used all four sides. 512KB isn't quite big enough to hold even three sides, let alone four. So if ...

Re: Are there and uses for a Georam (ram expansion) above 512kb

Heart is this the product you are referring to? That's the one. Are there noticeable speed differences between say a geo/neoram and a Commodore REU memory expansion? If your goal is to move a few bytes of memory, the GEORAM cartridge is "faster". If you want to move, say, a page of memory...

Re: Are there and uses for a Georam (ram expansion) above 512kb

real REUs can only have 512k
What about CMD's 1750XL? I owned one of these. It has a real REC chip and addresses 2MB.
There are also upgrade PCBs for REUs that allow them to address 1MB (possibly 2MB).

The original post was about uses for RAM expansion above 512KB.

Re: Are there and uses for a Georam (ram expansion) above 512kb

Other than GEOS? GEOS will use up to 2MB, I think. Most games that have been patched to use a GEORAM cartridge will probably only require 512KB. Pool or Radiance has been patched to use either a 1MB or 2MB GEORAM. Champions of Krynn probably has similar requirements. If you're talking an REU . . . m...

Re: I'd like to propose a "FD-3000"

I want the old hardware.
Weird but true. Maybe it's because I spent years listening to the sound of a 1541 stepper motor and whirring disks. There's a charm to the old hardware that new hardware can't replicate.

Re: I'd like to propose a "FD-3000"

I think the drive mechanism requires one or two hardware modifications to work with the FD-2000 or FD-4000.

Maybe contact Robin to get a copy of the custom ROM.
