Re: 1541C unusual "Shorter Board" version - J3?

There is absolutely nothing generic about that component. The number printed on it is sometimes different. See: https://www.nightfallcrew.com/wp-content/gallery/commodore-disk-drive-1541-white-with-drive-mechanism-made-by-alps-electric/img_2165.jpg I think the confusion comes from this line in the ...

Re: 1541C unusual "Shorter Board" version - J3?

Today, I don't know of anyone owning a 1541C with the very short board which is working okay. They all died and all of them because of the big flat custom SIP chip. You do now. LOL. I still have my original 1541C with short board and it is my daily drive. I even kept the box, manual etc. as it was ...

Re: 1541 mechanism color

Well... https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Vintage-Commodore-64-Computer-w-Original-Power-Supply/153652424273 That's funny. I have seen others that used white and brown keys to checkerboard the whole keyboard. Oh I see, I was sure someone whomped in a mechanism from another drive, I could only think of the 15...

Re: Videos and photos from CommVEx 2019

Cool videos! It was nice to meet you guys in person. I would have liked to spend more than an hour or so, but I got stuck taking a family member a little bit outside of Vegas and couldn't get back until after 5. It was nice to see it and talk to you guys, though. Coincidence that I happened to be th...

Re: 4264 vs. 2164 RAM chips

I think I read someplace that someone created a adapter board that converts a SMD DRAM that is also apparently still in production. I can't for the life of me find it but maybe someone else has heard about it. Does using SRAM change any behavior or present any kind of compatibility problem with the ...

Anyone have an extra 1581 drive manual for sale?

Hi All, I am looking for an original user guide/manual for the Commodore 1581 if you have an extra (US source preferred, English) please let me know.  I still have my 1581, including the box and everything that came with it from back when I bought it new at Toys R Us.  The problem is I loaned the wh...

Re: 4264 vs. 2164 RAM chips

Heh. As you can see above this was and still can be confusing with all these numbers etc. I have learned/relearned a lot since then. I have a cross reference for these numbers someplace but I will have to dig for it. But the 2164s are obviously compatible with the 4164s. The service manual lists the...

Re: please help

Did you try the channel select switch on the 64? Also try a composite/s-video DIN cable for the 64.

Re: Suggestions on Plus 4 problem?

I had no idear that the TL866 has a logic test for 74x chips. That is pretty cool. I think I would pick one up for that alone as it is still cheaper then the dedicated logic ic testers I have seen. I have a GQ-4x but it is an older revision and the latest software only works with the later revision ...
