Re: PAL red/green color moire, not in NTSC

I will try out my original kamikaze brick to see if it makes any difference. LOL.. I don't think I've ever heard that before..... I love it! If you have the breadbin C64 rmzalbar variety you may be able to squeeze it in.. I have had some fairly tall setups inside a breadbin. In my ...407 setu...

Re: PAL red/green color moire, not in NTSC

Hi eslapion, Well spotted at on the ad.. Oh well, that rules me out...LOL... That's an interesting suggestion from eslapion, rmzalbar regarding using the LumaTOLB board with the VIC II2 board. Maybe even getting by on just 1 just for the PAL side. When your European C64 arrives you may be able...

Re: PAL red/green color moire, not in NTSC

Hi eslapion, This is a higher frequency signal and should be close to a square wave. If you tap there, the ground connection must be on the same chip (pin 8). Use an oscilloscope probe 10X only and nothing to 'extend' it. Thank you for the advice on setting the probe to 10x and taking the probe's gr...

Re: PAL red/green color moire, not in NTSC

Hi eslapion, Yes. However, I have to add that your setup with this little 'pickup' probe and long yellow wire adds parasitic inductance so your scope gets a poor quality signal with lots of ringing. Also, I see you have the CPU clock on your scope. Why don't you try the more challenging color clock ...

Re: PAL red/green color moire, not in NTSC

Hi rmzalbar, I was just looking at my ...407 board and taking a few readings. I noticed if I set my scope to just look at 1 square wave instead of say looking at multiple waves on a screen the oscilloscope is able to make much more accurate frequency readings. It still fluctuates however it is great...

That's hand made drag soldering. The CPLD takes only about 30 seconds to solder. If you look at the bottom left corner of the XC9536XL footprint, there is a solder thief to help me.

This video is a tutorial that helped me.
I like like your work very much.... :D

Re: PAL red/green color moire, not in NTSC

Hi rmzalbar, I was just thinking you may want to remove the PAL VIC II chip from the VIC II2 circuit board and plug it straight into the C64 main board and also remove the PAL crystal and put it into the C64 main board. That way you can get a better live view on a LCD monitor when you fine tune the ...

Re: PAL red/green color moire, not in NTSC

Hi rmzalbar,

Is that a broken track near C15…?

That must have been really tricky to adjust the trimmer with the C64 off.

Hi eslapion,

That's some very nice soldering work on that PLAnkton PLA chip.
Do you do that or do you get it done at a factory?

Re: PAL red/green color moire, not in NTSC

Hi eslapion, I missed that detail entirely...... :o I need to go back and do more oscilloscope readings on the board as you suggested in another thread. I was sloppy and didn't do my homework  https://dustlayer.com/c64-architecture/2013/5/7/hardware-basics-part-1-tick-tock-know-your-clock They...
