A small fan can always help with the thermal aspect. Back in 1986, I put a fan connected between the 5V source and the 12V source inside my first 1541 so the fan ran at 7V.
However, with 1541 drives being as old as they are, a fan will contribute to increase dust accumulation.

I have a 250466 in a breadbin case. Its the first board I tested PLAnkton on. Works beautifully.motrucker wrote:We were talking about this on another forum, so you already know I want at least one of these. I will be using it in a C-64c with board # 250466. I do hope it works on that board.

Re: 1541 Hardening
The built-in power supplies of 1541/2031 drives is incredibly inneficient. Old VIC-1541 drives with very long boards consume about 1A on the 5V and 800mA on the 12V when spinning and 120mA when not spinning, that's about 15 watts when spinning and less than 6 watts when not spinning. The power cord ...

Re: 1541 Hardening
Have you ever thought of removing the PSU from the 1541 case, and using an external unit? I did exactly that with a 1541 that was given to me. Works beautifully. The drive weighs 2 pounds less and produces no heat anymore. I put a power connector identical to the one on 1581 and 1541-II drives. On ...

Re: A new generation of PLA for the C64 will soon be availab
Getting FastLoad compatibility was very easy. Super Zaxxon (the cart version - not the disk) is very sensitive to any problems a PLA might have. It uses a flip-flop to toggle access to the upper or lower half of one of its 2 ROMs. PLAnkton supports it perfectly. PLAnkton works well with everything I...

Re: A new generation of PLA for the C64 will soon be availab
Wow, this looks fantastic. So when you say this is more compatible then the SuperPLA does that mean it works with the things that one does not, like the Fastload cart? PLAnkton works with the Fastload cart and it is also more compatible with older boards like the 250407 or 326298. It has a built-in...

A new generation of PLA for the C64 is now available.
A new generation of PLA for the C64 is now available! PLAnkton is a new substitute for the C64 PLA U17 part no. 906114-01 or 251064-01. A few years ago, a PLA based on the Xilinx XC9536 appeared in the Commodore community. This circuit is now out of production and has been for quite some time. The n...

Behr-Bonz 64 in development!
The VIC-20 Behr-Bonz multicart was quite succesful. As such, I have decided to develop a version for the C64. I would need some advice as to what games to put in there. Please note, I can only put games that are 16k or less in the cartridge's EPROM. Please tell me what games you'd like to see in the...
