GEOS would need Configure to set the drive to 1571.

As far as I know you can access it as a 1571 in C64 mode, but you don't have access to the "fast" serial mode.

Commodore started out with IEEE/parallel cables, but there were supply problems. Some sources claim a large military contract meant all the drive manufacturers had trouble getting the cables.
