What's your favourite Emulator?

Post by Melon »

So, what's your favourite emulator and why?

I've always been a fan of VICE. Does exactly what I need it to do and overall It's gave me the best results when running the latest Demos.

VICE as well. Because of its technically awesome debugger which can be remote controlled.

I am particular to CCS64. I was happy to register my copy years ago, and actually think the DOS version gives the best experience (although I only use that version on Win98 boxes). I also like to use it for development because I can modify the .D64 file (i.e. copy files over) while it's still loaded in the emulator without a file conflict. VICE seems to lock the .D64 file when it is attached. Un-attaching, copying files into the .D64, and reattaching is a pain. Maybe there is a better way?

I think CCS works better but VICE is more user-friendly. To me, at least... I'm a tech-dunce. Speaking of which, is there any way to map controller buttons in VICE, or do I REALLY still have to use the space bar for the flame thrower in Green Beret?

I used to use CCS but when I upgraded my PC from a 486 to Pentium back in late '90s, CCS started making this high-pitch whistle sound through the speakers that wouldn't stop until I restarted the computer.
I then switched to WinVice and have been happy with it ever since.

I think this is where dink bursts into the room shouting "LEAVE EVERYTHING TO ME!"

Seriously though, there is a release of vice with his controller remapper included, and it's rather spiffing ;) (remap using the vice.ini file)
