I like WinVice. It does what I need it to do, and even better, it covers all the C= platforms to one extent or another. As an owner/user of C64, Vic-20, C128, and C16 machines, it's handy to be able to emulate all of them.

Is there any way to get CCS to run in windowed mode from within the program itself? It boots to full screen within about half a second and I can't do anything to stop it, and I can't find anything to change it to windowed mode which is really annoying.

Hit Alt-V (or F10->Options->Video)
Highlight Screen Mode, arrow left or right. The window sizes are fixed, but adequate.

I started of with C64S on PC which ran in DOS and was a great emulator at the time, even registered but then Miha who wrote it disappeared or something and development stopped. So CCS64 was the next choice, even had some hotkeys learned - there's a lot of these IIRC but for some reason WinVICE won me over, possibly because of the excellent program PRG Starter http://www.boray.se/software/prgstarter/ and also that fixes and updates were faster - which is no big wonder since more people are probably working on it.

That doesn't work for me. It stays full screen, regardless of what I choose.

EDIT: And now I found it. Haha! Thanks!

The SDL version of VICE is nice (x64sdl) -- The config menus are generated inside the c64 screen!

I use CCS64 but for the 128, I use C64 Forever which I guess is WinVICE ;)

None, I don't like emulators.

For testing my assembler I use VICE but that's as far as it goes.

Someone on REMOVED put it best when they said Emulators conjure up images of alcohol free beer and electronic cigarettes. *Shudders*

If I do use one, I usually just pop in the one packaged with C64 Forever by Cuanto (or whoever)... sometimes it will be CCS64
