which chips fail the most on the 64
Re: which chips fail the most on the 64
I think the failing PSUs take down more chips with them than chips on their own.

for the same switch problem with a Plus 4.

Hi Banana and Gyro Gearloose,
I can't argue with the faulty Commodore PSU's causing many problems.
That's an awesome job getting the plus/4 power switch operational again.
Basically the same issue I had with a C64 power switch. I so wish I was smarter and checked the switch instead of ripping out everything from the main board trying to find this out
Is the C64 power switch similar to the Plus/4 computer?

It is the same type of switch, a DPDT, with the same kind of toggle mechanism, but I don't know if they're the same part number. Too lazy to check right now, but the method of taking it apart is the same.
Maybe there's a video out there showing how to do it. It might seem like an alien concept to take a switch apart, but it's not hard at all.

Hi Gyro Gearloose,
Thanks for that information.
That is very handy to know. I would very much like to see a video of the switch maintenance.
Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places. It seems the C64 power switch is a hard to come by item.

Same here. I can't even find it in the PSU.
