VARIAC?

When taking a commodore out after a great many years in storage, does anyone recommend a VARIAC to bring up back up slowly?

All of my Commodore equipment comes from eBay where it has already received the "shock" treatment of just turning the switch on. If I had both a Variac and a computer in the attic for 20 years, it would be something I would try as well.
