Newtronics 1541 mechanisms with dead head

Post by Gyro Gearloose »

Hello community members!
I am trying to get some defective heads together so I can send them to engineering firms for evaluation.
I only have the one defective head here, if anyone has a dead head they can ship to Canada I'll pay for the shipping.
Of course it's best if you can take the head off the mechanism to simplify shipping.
This is for the Newtronics D500 mechanism used on some 1541-IIs for example.
Symptom is the drive can not read anything at all even though everything else works.

Thanks!

Too bad I dissected mine already, or you'd be welcome to it. Check some of the other boards too?

It's probably cheaper and faster to simply check eBay for various dead drives. I wonder if anyone can tell me if the compatible third-party drives like the Excelerator or the FSD-1 have similar failures?
