Japanese spacecraft Akatsuki arrives at Venus after 5-year detour

The spacecraft launched May 21, 2010, and was supposed to arrive at Venus on Dec. 7 of that year, but failed to inject itself into orbit around Earth's nearest neighbouring planet.

Wow! First time I hear of a malfunctioning spacecraft fixed 5 years later... in space... from the ground!

Quite a feat i bet that had taken a few ticker times on a supercomputer to correct.... The Asahi would be flowing in later celebrations.
Now they need to get some good science out of the probe and publish....

Super impressive how they rerouted the fuel to the other small boosters. And then got it into that elliptical orbit around Venus. What a save.
