On a 128D or DCR, when in 64 mode, can the drive be used as a 1571? I am not able to turn on my 128D at the moment. It's a mess.
For example, would GEOS recognize the drive as a 1571? GEOS 128 must obviously do so.

A naive question perhaps
The price one pays for pursuing any profession, or calling, is an intimate knowledge of its ugly side.
Re: A naive question perhaps
AFAIK, only JiffyDOS allows you to do that but I could be completely wrong.Gyro Gearloose wrote: ↑Wed Oct 14, 2020 4:24 am On a 128D or DCR, when in 64 mode, can the drive be used as a 1571? I am not able to turn on my 128D at the moment. It's a mess.

Re: A naive question perhaps
GEOS would need Configure to set the drive to 1571.
As far as I know you can access it as a 1571 in C64 mode, but you don't have access to the "fast" serial mode.

Yeah, In c64 mode, The 1571 acts like a 1541... You won't be able to take advantage of the 1571's capabilities..

Really? I did'nt remember that! Thanks for adding that! If that's true, That would also mean that you could read and format a 1571 disk in c64 mode as well.

Re: A naive question perhaps
Yep. No Jiffydos needed, though you do have send a M-W command to configure that mode after poweron. I don't have a 128 but I have used the 1571 to pull files from 128 formatted disks.
