Re: PS/2 keyboard adapter for VIC20 and C64
I should clarify this.
It should be....
I suspect that AT style, PS 2 style and USB style keyboards use all the same serial protocols. It is the plug connector that is different.
Apologies for the typo.....
Re: PS/2 keyboard adapter for VIC20 and C64
That does not apply to modern usb keyboards , only the early one's that work with the USB to PS/2 adapter have the PS/2 protocol and will work.
In the early days of USB they needed a way to be compatible with the PS/2 protocol as the majority of computers still had them , that is why they shipped the adapter with the keyboard or mouse. These days everything has usb so the need to be compatible is not there and the protocol has been dropped and are now USB only!

It might be worth asking mouser as they do not appear in the catalogue but i can get a page up with the MT8808AE1 that shows 17 in stock.

mouser sku is 494-MT8808AE1
and here is a list of suppliers with stock levels.

Re: PS/2 keyboard adapter for VIC20 and C64
Just for the people who are interested the AE on the part no. is the designation for 28 pin dip and if it has a 1 on the end ( i.e. MT8808AE1 ) it is a 'lead free' part ( no Pb ) and , supposedly , better for the environment .

Hi Levoman,
Thanks for the heads up regarding USB to PS 2 protocols on the keyboards. I didn't know that. I think all the USB keyboards I have here have the older PS 2 protocols.
I just had a look at my crosspoint switch IC. Looks like it's a 28 pin leaded version.
