Does anybody remember routine or SYS to scroll screen DOWN?

Post by madcommodore »

Sorry to post a thread as soon as I joined but I've seen some very detailed responses so thought I'd give this a go.

A very long time ago in the early-mid 80s there was either a routine or just an SYS command that reversed the direction of character screen scroll, the opposite of what PRINTing on the last line does in C64 BASIC or pressing return at the bottom of the screen. If I could remember which magazine it was I would go hunting through them but not sure, quite a few mags had more than games reviews in those early days but it may have been Commodore User or CCI.

Does anybody know of this routine or if there is an SYS hack? Would be very useful for racing games where you want to scroll the screen down not up and put your player sprite on the bottom of the screen. Scrolling the screen down using multiple print commands doesn't feel right. I tried using insert cursor command in quotes but that only works once from the top of the screen so that won't work for a scrolling game.

Thanks.

Hi madcommodore ,

I think I sort of remember it very vaguely. Though I can't remember where exactly.

Somehow, I got stuck in my mind a utility on the Commodore 1541 Demo disk where you could scroll up or down a diskette directory listing. Even my memory on that is wildy sketchy. Maybe someone could confirm or deny this.

I think it has something to do with moving the screen memory up or down.

I'm taking a stab in the dark (I thought it was for the C128)

However there is something here

Maybe ask Robin over at 8bit show and tell. He's very good with coding.

I am sure if you messaged him he would reply to you.
