BASIC 3.5 for the Commodore 64

Post by eslapion »

I found a video on YouTube about BASIC 3.5 being adapted to the C64. Unfortunately this is in Italian, it seems.

BASIC 3.5 is an upgraded version of the BASIC used in the VIC-20 and C64 and it offers interesting improvements. It was one of the key features of the C16/C116/Plus4 family of machines.

Too bad there isn't an English version of that video cause i'd sure like to know more about this.

You can find BASIC 3.5 for the C64 here: https://csdb.dk/release/?id=189017

That's cool. That and the color palette were about the only things I appreciated about the Plus/4 tech. Back in the day I thought it was a joke. But I appreciate it more these days as it was part of the Commodore history.

When the C128 came out I loved the V7 BASIC. It is the Plus/4s BASIC and more.

Interestingly you can use a Super Expander cart and get very similar BASIC extensions for graphics and sound. I think read someplace that the Super Expander keywords were the basis for the later expanded versions of Commodore BASIC, but I could be wrong.

When you go to the CSDB link above, there is another link for the June 1990 64er magazine which contains an article giving many details on BASIC 3.5 for the C64. Here is the link to that magazine --

https://archive.org/details/64er_1990_0 ... 3/mode/2up

The German magazine article begins on p.55 and ends on p. 60. I have translated that article, and the English .pdf can be found attached to the first message of thread at
