Promenade C1 software

I was recently contacted by people who can't find the software to get the good old Promenade C1 up and running.

This low cost EPROM programmer for the VIC-20/C64/C128 was a very accessible and affordable solution for quite a long time and adapters were made to get it to support even larger capacities at some point.

Since Jason-Ranheim, the makers of the C1, couldn't care less that people make clones of this device or freely distribute the software for it then here I post the necessary utilities to get the C1 to run along with schematics and instructions.

The software is called Promos.

Well, I wouldn't say that Judy Ranheim, widow of John Ranheim, couldn't care, but she is appreciative that people in the world still value her husband's work.

Well, I wouldn't say that Judy Ranheim, widow of John Ranheim, couldn't care, but she is appreciative that people in the world still value her husband's work.

I just said this because the company was contacted in the past in order to ensure they didn't mind if copies of the software or clones of the product were made available and they simply responded by asking not to be contacted (disturbed) again for matters related to an ancient product.

I can't know that.

I know there was a gentleman who made clones of the C1 about 10 years ago. He also made adapters for the C1 which would allow the programming of much larger capacity EPROMs in multiple passes.

He wanted to modify PROMOS so that it would support large files for programming these larger EPROMs and contacted Jason-Ranheim and the answer he got was that the product was no longer offered and that they didn't want people to call them about it anymore and they didn't care if copies of the product or software were made.

That's all I know.

Hmm, 10 years ago... well, it couldn't have been John, because he passed away in 2003. When he passed away, the business was essentially gone.

If the creator of the C1 had been dead then it would make sense the family would prefer not to be harassed by (many?) people trying to get information or permission or whatever about this product.
